Northrise University Initiative (NUI) supports a Christ-centered vision for Zambia through diverse efforts, transforming lives and communities. From a God-given vision in 1988, Northrise graduates now impact families, Zambia, and Africa with faith, hope, and dedication.

STARTING IN 1988
A VISION EMERGES
Dr. Moffat and Mrs. Doreen Zimba, the founders of Northrise University, were both born in Zambia but suffered from a lack of meaningful educational opportunities. As newlyweds, they heard and answered God’s call to attend Bible college in Australia, then went on to graduate school in the United States, where Moffat obtained a doctorate at Fuller Theological Seminary, and Doreen received her MBA in Technology from the University of Phoenix. In 1988, amid their academic pursuits, God made it clear to the Zimbas that they would be instrumental in God’s work of bringing transformation into the lives of Zambian students, who could then help improve the lives of others, together bringing change to their nation. This vision would become Northrise University.
TODAY’S NORTHRISE
A VISION BLOSSOMS
Today, Northrise University Initiative has supported over 1,000 students enrolled at Northrise. As a result of that support, Northrise University now offers full accreditation and twelve degree programs in business, IT, law, nursing, theology, and engineering (in 2025). Of its 800 alums, 99% have remained in Zambia, taking up leadership positions in business, healthcare, government, and ministry. Equipped with servant leadership and love for their fellow Zambians, these graduates lead fulfilling careers and help transform their communities and nation.
THE FUTURE
A VISION FLOURISHES
The demand for quality, Christ-centered higher education in Zambia is rising, and thanks to the steadfast support of the Northrise University Initiative, plans have emerged to expand the Northrise campus. Through Christ-centered education, transformation will occur from the inside out, a middle class will be created, and Zambia will be freed from the gripping effects of poverty. With this vision as its heartbeat and the Northrise University Initiative as a foundational supporter, Northrise seeks to continue inspiring its students, staff, faculty, and friends to realize the Lord’s miracles worldwide and see that anything is possible through Him.
